I have forgotten my username and password. Where can I get this?

This question is answered in the Member FAQ.

My username and password do not work. What do I do?

This question is answered in the Member FAQ.

Will you critique my website?

We get a large number of requests for website critiques. It would be humanly impossible for us to handle even a fraction of these requests. We will however send you a small list of consultants & companies who will critique your website for free, or for a fee. Contact the Help Desk staff to request this list. IMPORTANT: Include your Market-It member username when requesting this list. (Note: This list is available exclusively for Market-It members)

Do I need to have Java enabled in my browser?

To use many of the tools and resources on this site, you must have a Java-enabled browser. (e.g. Netscape or Explorer, version 3 later). By default, Java is already enabled.

Java is disabled in my browser. How do I enable Java?

Netscape (version 4 & 5) users:
On your browser's top menubar, click "Edit" then select "Preferences." Click on "Advanced" then select the checkboxes "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript."

Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4 & 5) users:
On your browser's top menubar, click "View" then select "Internet Options." Click on the "Advanced" tab, then select the checkbox related to enabling Java.

What if I don't have a Java-enabled browser?

You can download the newest Netscape browser from http://www.Netscape.com or the newest Explorer browser from http://www.Microsoft.com If you need help with downloading, see Downloading and Installing Courseware & Ebooks in the Member FAQ.

I noticed the statement: "This website is always growing!" Could you give me more details?

When a new member logs into the members site for the very first time, they quickly learn that there's a huge amount of tools and resources, at least double of what was mentioned on the website they signed up from. But we don't stop there. We will always continue to add valuable and useful new items to this website.

I think this website is great, and I want to give you praise. How to I do that?

We love to hear from happy members! Contact the Help Desk staff to tell us what you think.

Can I give you a testimonial?

Absolutely. In fact, if we use your testimonial on one of our high-traffic websites, we'll include a hotlink to your site! Contact the Help Desk staff and leave your testimonial on the contact form.

Tip: Your testimonial could be a sentence, a paragraph, or longer.

Tip: The more interesting testimonials have a better chance of being included on one of our sites. For example, a testimonial like: "I think this site is great" is pretty dry, as compared to something with a little more punch, like: "You guys really bring home the bacon" or... "Wow, blew my socks off!! Incredible value!!" Put on your creativity hat when writing your testimonial, but by all means don't make anything up or exaggerate! Be honest, and if you're sincerely excited about this website then feel free to "toot your horn" a bit.

I have a complaint. How do I tell you?

Your candid input is important to us. Contact the Help Desk staff to tell us what you think.

We take pride in our offerings and our customer service, and we're always eager to learn how we can improve things even more.

I don't have a product to sell. What do you recommend?

It is important that you market a proven product, which has a large base of potential customers. It is vital that your sales website has a good "conversion ratio" (the ratio of visitors to buyers).

If you don't have a product of your own, consider becomming a reseller for this site. The Market-It Resellers site has proven and effective marketing materials you can use, including a sales page with a great conversion ratio. Best of all, you'll earn a whopping 50% commission.

    2. Check out some of the great HTML tutorial websites. To find these, go to your favorite search engine (or meta search engine such as www.metacrawler.com) and search for the keyword phrase: html tutorial

    3. Post your question to an HTML programming message board. Chances are you'll get a handlful of answers from experienced people who are willing to help others. Use your favorite search engine to locate one or more message board websites.

I did not receive a sales confirmation email. Why?

Sales confirmation emails are sent with each new membership order we process. If you didn't get your confirmation email, it may be because (a) You mistyped your email address at the time you ordered; or (b) If your email account is over quota (e.g. full). When this happens, your ISP's email server will probably reject any new mail sent to you; or (c) If you have a "bulk email filtering" or "spam blocking" feature enabled, your email system may be inadvertently blocking real mail which you should be receiving. If you have a "bulk mail" folder, see if the email message was routed there. In general, it is wise to turn off your bulk email filters until/unless bulk email becomes a problem for you.

How can I see my account info, including details of my membership purchase, and my monthly billing transaction history?

From the Market-It members site, click on Account Control in the left-hand navbar.

I have forgotten my username and password. Where can I get this?

When you joined, you received a confirmation email containing your username & password. If you cannot find that email message, then click on the "I forgot my password" link located on the Market-It Members site Login Page.

My username and password do not work. What do I do?

Our system is CaSe SeNSiTiVe. You must type in your username and password exactly as you originally typed them on the signup form. If you are unsure of how your username and password appears, you can look it up by following the instructions in the above question.

Here are some tips when typing your username and password:

  1. Keep in mind that the username & password are CaSe SeNSiTiVe. If your password is "success" but instead you type "Success" (with an uppercase "S") then it will not work.

  2. Make sure you do not type any leading or trailing blank spaces. If you are copy/pasting your password, it can be easy to inadvertantly grab extra blank spaces.

  3. For accuracy, try copy/pasting your username & password into the text input box. You can use your mouse to copy your password out of the confirmation mail you received when you signed up for your membership.

  4. Make sure you are using the correct username & password! Double-check the confirmation mail you received when you first signed up, or request another copy of your username & password (as described in the previous question).

How do I get to the promotion tools page?

From the Market-It members site, click on the Promotion Tools tab at the top of the screen.

Are there additional promotion tools on this site?

The Resources section contains tools and directories related to promotion. One example is the "Directory of Ezines that Offer Free Ads." To access the Resources section: From the Market-It members site, click on the Resources tab at the top of the screen.

Are there instructions for using the various promotion tools?

Yes, the webpage for each promotion tool contains instructions and tips, plus references to related courseware contained on this site.

How often can I use these promotion tools?

You may use them as often as you like. You can log in every day if you like, and use the tools. The only exception is the Press Release Blaster and various other blasters which reach the media/press; these you may use as often as once per week. (the blasters which are limited to once per week are noted on the Promotion Tools main page of the Market-It members site as well as on the blasters themselves)

You should limit yourself on how often you use the search engine submission tool. Most search engines will penalize you if you submit to them too often. You should re-submit your pages quarterly, monthly, or weekly. If you plan on submitting more often than once per month, we suggest that you check with each search engine and review their submission guidelines.

I'm getting an error saying that I'm not authorized to use the promotion tools. But I'm logged in as a Market-It member. Why am I getting this error?

Most likely this is occurring because you have Norton Firewall installed on your PC. Norton Firewall blocks the referer variable, which causes occasional problems on various websites across the Internet. If you're using Norton Firewall, simply disable the firewall when you access Market-It.

If you're not using Norton Firewall, try closing all programs running in Windows, including all programs running in background. To close the background programs, look for the icons near the time-of-day in the bottom right corner of your Windows screen, then right-mouseclick on the icon(s) to close the program(s).

If your ISP is not reporting the referer variable, or, they will not do a reverse lookup, this could cause the problem. However this is very rare, and we have had no reported cases of this happening. If you thing this may be related to your ISP, the try using another dial-up ISP account if you have one.

Some of the online promotion tools report variables at the very bottom of the error messages. If you tried everything above and you are still getting the error, then try using the FFA Blaster and when you get the error, Contact the Help Desk staff and give them the entire error message including the three variables listed at the bottom of the error message.

When I click the submit button, my curser turns to an hourglass, but nothing happens. What should I do?

If the server is very busy, once you click the submit button it may take up to 30 seconds for a response. However the response time will rarely ever be longer than 5 or 10 seconds.

While you're waiting for a response, do not click the Submit button a second time. If you do, your previous request will be cancelled and a new one will be submitted... and the wait time will start again.

Most of the promotion tools are pretty straight forward, however there are a few that I don't quite understand. What should I do?

The promotion tools range from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Just use the tools you feel comfortable with. Later, after you get your feet wet and become a more experienced marketer, you'll have use for the more advanced tools.

Also, once you read some of the courseware, you'll have a better understanding of web marketing, and you'll be able to use some of the more advanced tools. To access the online courseware and downloadable ebooks: From the Market-It members site, click on the Courseware tab at the top of the screen.

Should I download all the coursware right now, including the stuff I don't need now?

You should download just what you need to use right now. We are always providing newer, updated versions to these publicatons, so by downloading a publication when you're ready for it, you can be certain that you have the latest-and-greatest version.

We ask that you respect the bandwidth of this site for other fellow members, and please don't download everything for the sake of having it on your hard disk. These publications will always be here for you, so download them as you need them.

When I click on the link to begin the download, my browser does not bring up a Save As dialog box. What should I do?

If your browser does not bring up a "Save As" dialog box, then right mouseclick on the hotlink, then select Save As...

Where should I save the file on my PC?

It really doesn't matter where you save the file, however it's a good idea to consistently download all of your files to the same folder. That will make for easy future reference and PC maintenance.

We suggest that you save all downloaded files in the Windows folder called My Downloads which is located on the C: drive. Or, you can create your own folder, for example C:\Downloads

I downloaded the file to my PC, but I forgot where it was saved. What should I do?

You can locate the file on your PC by using the Windows "Find" tool.

  1. Click the Windows START button in the lower left corner of your screen, then click Find, then click Files or Folders.
  2. Type in the name of the file, then click the Find Now button.
TIP: You can abbreviate the filename using "wildcard" character. For example, if the file is called ebooksecrets.exe you can enter e*.exe or eb*.exe or eb*.*
TIP: if you don't remember the filename, go to the Market-It Courseware section of the Market-It members site, and hold your mouse over the download link. The file name will show up in the status bar at the bottom of your browser. To access the Courseware section: From the Market-It members site, click on the Courseware tab at the top of the screen.

Once the Find tool locates the file, you can use your mouse to drag the file to your Windows desktop, or you can use cut/paste to place the file in another folder on your PC.

Follow these steps to install a program or an ebook:

  1. Download the installation file to your PC.
  2. Close all Windows programs. (you should do this before installing any program in Windows)
TIP: To close programs running in background, look for program icons in the lower right corner of your Windows screen, next to the time-of-day. To close these programs, right mouseclick on each icon, then select Close or Exit.
  3. Locate the installation file on your PC. Double click on the file and the install program will start. Follow the on-screen prompts.
TIP: If you installed or uninstalled any other programs since you turned on your PC, you should first reboot your PC before installing any additional program. You should also reboot if you experienced any Windows errors since you turned on your PC.

I just downloaded a file to my PC, and when I tried to open it using WinZip, I get this error: "Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive."

This error indicates the file was corrupted during download. This usually occurs from some sort of communications error, most likely noise in the phone line, or a communication error at your ISP, or anywhere between your ISP and our server.

If you get this error, you will need to delete the file from your PC, then re-downlod it.

I'm still having trouble installing the program I downloaded. What now?

If you're still having trouble installing the program you downloaded, you can:

  1. Ask a friend, neighbor, co-worker or relative who is experienced with PCs to give you a hand.
  2. Check out FreeSkills.com for a tutorial on installing files. www.FreeSkills.com
